I was kind of hoping the cover for the last DVD volume for Xros Wars is all main character gather together XD

Wow, they look pretty cool. I expected recycled art (this being Hunters and all...) but it's actually new drawings (though I'm pretty sure that Cho-Hakkaimon is the last part of her super-evolution sequence).
ReplyDeleteWhy is the Taiki cover so small?
*Sighs looking at the nice covers and remembering Young Hunter's run*
ReplyDeletePersonally, I still have even some enjoyment watching it, though I believe the "one story finished in one episode" treatment ate up most of the episode counts, as a number of them could have been dedicated more into exploring further characters like Ryouma, Tagiru, Ren, etc.
Perhaps 10 episodes would have been for the fillers, 11 for character centric episodes and 4 for the Legendary Eiyuu and Quartzmon fights.
No matter how much I try, I just can't understand why they couldn't have made better episodes with decent character development. They could have easily done as you said - 10 fillers, 11 "plot episodes" and the Final Four(xD). But, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......... Such potential....wasted... T_T
DeleteUnfortunately we cannot tell why the producers went to such treatment for Hunters. It could have been born from many reasons, or a combo of them; Minimal budget left, executive intervention/meddling or the flaw of the writers' part.
DeleteThough I heard some fellow Digimon fans say it's the lower than expected ratings the show got. It could have played an important factor in shaping Young Hunters.
Yes, Hunters could have been better even if it has the shortest episode count out of all Digimon anime we have seen so far. The last episodes were satisfactory IMO to tickle nostalgia and boost up fandom hype with the classic characters once more returning to the screen after their respective seasons have ended years ago; Though it too, could have been done better.
You might also have to wonder too where in the Dark Oceans Jyou, Ruki, Mimi, Ken, Yamato etc. went to, as they were suddenly written off/disappeared in the last episode...
Of course, unless they too ended up being assimilated by Quartzmon, but not shown. (Which, I dread thinking. o_X;;)
Well, because of all that stuff, I think it would be better to count Hunters as non-canon like that Hurricane Touchdown/Golden Digimentals movie. After all, Hunters really seem like an "anniversary season", which is made just for the sake of anniversary. Though, I still don't know if it's really okay to count it as non-canon or not...
DeleteIcould not agree more, i will allways count hunters as non-canon.
DeleteMe too. Heck, I'm even developing ideas for a potential fan fic that'll be a TOTAL FULL-ON remake of Hunters, only without Tagiru as the main character, and more character development!
DeleteGlad to see you are uploading something again :)
ReplyDeleteeven with a low budget, they could have made it an interesting narrative like adventures was
ReplyDeleteagreed. xros was disappointing. death generals was on par with the previous arc, and hunters was a total waste.
Deletethough I wouldn't say xros wars (first two arcs) had a strong and flowing narrative (character development wise) like Adventure Or Tamers, It still had very funny characters (and more interesting compared to most from data squad) and even though it had a cliche system, it always added in something new to the mix and made fun of it too. Hunters had the advantage of good concepts (digixrosing for small upgrades, focusing on digivolution and throwing in the power of human emotion) but these concepts were barely utilized.
DeleteOverall, Xros Wars was just a mess. It was fun and enjoyable at times but still just a mess.
DeleteThe human characters were okay IMO (except the Hunters crew)
DeleteActually Savers was fine in the original. As waere the first two arcs of Xros wars.
DeleteSorry if off topic, Rainie. Seems Re: Digitize commercial is out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RwCZYmuAhs&feature=player_embedded
ReplyDeleteTaiga, Nicolai and Akiho: "SE-NDO~!"
Tagiru: OBJECTION!
ReplyDelete...Sorry. I just HAD to do that. I mean, he's doing the Phoenix Wright point and everything!
By God, Ren looks sooo adorable on that cover! And Ryouma...*drool*
Heck, why do so many people despise Xros Wars that much?
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually seen it, is this series really that bad or those people are just whining brats like the Frontier haters circa 2002-2003?
it's mainly hated over because it doesn't focus on evolution but rather focus' on a somewhat cliche system called digixrosing (making the digimon seem like power rangers or transformers) and that the characters don't have as much in depth character development than previous digimon series. In truth, the series is actually real good. the digixrosing was used in very funny instances and a few interesting ways, some of the characters had very funny moments and emotional too, the series keeps a consistent pace and has a few interesting twists. plus the main 54 episodes have spectacular animation!
Deletethe last 25 episodes, however, do not live up to xros wars standards. the core 54 episodes acted as a regular digimon season but the last 25 (entire series was 79episodes) acted as a build up to the 15th aniversay of digimon (involving the previous protagonists) the only problem was... There was no buildup! it has it's moments, but just places in 11 episodes that don't do a thing to build up plot.
In short, the main 54 episodes, while somewhat flawed, can live up to being probably the 3rd or sec ond best digimon series all around and best in funny moments and animation. the last 25, while some episodes do their job (the anniversary episodes), don't do a thing.
Xros Wars is a big change with it's concept and mechanics like Frontier kinda was and there will always be brats who are unable to understand that variety is good. Xros Wars is my second to least favorite season mainly because they downplayed strong Digimon like Lucemon or AncientVolcamon, Mervamon (character I hate the most), Hunters and I don't like the design of several new Digimon. But, overall, I'd say it's a good season and I'm very glad it was made, just like with Frontier (I like Frontier more :)).
DeleteFrontier still respected already established concepts, didn't go overboard with new crap, and had a decent plot and character development.
DeleteXros Wars also did a terrible job with fanservice. Mervamon's sexiness didn't feel right and was rather irritating IMO, plus the anniversary crossover was... hmmm... disappointing. just disappointing.
DeleteLOL Mervamon.
DeleteMervamon have replaced Fairymon as my least favorite female digimon.
DeleteGeez, all the Mervamon hate. Unlike Fairymon, who was totally useless, Mervamon atleast kicked butt!
DeleteYes, but her fanservice alone is the reason why Xros Wars probably won't be dubbed ( and if it does, there's going to be some heavy editing). Fairymon despite being useless and weak (who the hell looses in their debut fight?) was a bit more "subtle". And I use the term "subtle" extremely loosely!
DeleteWell, Sunflowmon lost aswell, but that was only her series debut, as it was obvious she did not evolve for the first time. And ofcourse it was not a matter of weakness, but a combination of several factors.
DeleteGeez, Blaming Mervamon for that is stupid, especially with Lilithmon and Bastemon around.
Really? Lilithmon and Bastemon didn't have nearly as much fanservice as Mervamon. And even if they did, at least they weren't constantly shoving them down our throats.
DeleteThe pictures aren't showing up.
ReplyDeleteNow they are!
DeleteTagiru... Why are you so detestable?
ReplyDeleteAnother question: Gumdramon...why are you the most blatant rip-off of Veemon in existence?
DeleteAnd Veemon was pretty much just Davis in Digimon form.
DeleteDigimon having the same personality as its tamer is a recurring cliche in the franchise.
DeleteYou forgot how Hunters is a 25-episode long compilation of a bunch of shonen cliches, specially those based on the digimon franchise?
at the very least the gave gumdramon some interesting back story, but why one episode?! the gumdramon and shoutmon student/mentor relationship would have worked out well if they actually gave detail. what would anyone here say is the worst filler episode in hunters? I'd say either the ramen episode (weakly voiced moral for a very unimportant character) or the amusement park episode (all they did was tape sakkakumon's eyes shut)
DeleteHaHa Digimon Fusion Battles?!
DeleteHaHaHa
@Gary Veemon was probably the most egregious example of it though. Most of the other Digimon partners at least some traits to differentiate themselves from their partners (even if it was just a few for some of them). Veemon was just a straight copy of Davis right down to his love for Gatomon.
Delete@Anon 12:04 I was hoping that they would touch on that relationship as well, it's too bad that we don't learn more about that since that could've easily build up their characters and shown how much Shoutmon has grown over the years.
Anyway, I'd definately have to say the Ekakimon episode was the worst for me due to how bland and forgettable it was. It's also didn't help that neither the CotW and MotW were very interesting, and in the latter case was pretty annoying.
They had an interesting potential love square involving Taiki, Akari, Zenjirou and Nene that never went anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity.
Weee... What?!
DeleteDamn crazy shippers...
